T. K. Rajeev Kumar
Visiting Instructor

Hello there! T. K. Rajeev Kumar here! First and foremost, welcome to RKFA. I am very pleased to be the Head of the Department of Direction

I was fortunate to be from a family that produced outstanding musicians and perhaps that was graciously passed onto me a bit. My passion for arts took me through theater, percussion (mridangam) , helped me co- found and lead the musical band “Blue Birds” in 1980 & Super Mimics, a comedy show in 1979. With all modesty let me also recall the time when I could as a student win the Mono Act at the Kerala University festival and also the Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award for mono act in 1979, 1980.

After graduating from the University College, Thiruvananthapuram, my film career started off with Navodaya, where I began working as an Assistant Director at the age of 21. My early lessons were from film maker Jijo Punnose, son of Navodaya Appachan. I subsequently assisted Regunath Paleri in his debut directorial venture " Onnu Muthal Poogyam Varae". The hit Kamal Hasan thriller Chanakyan was my debut film.

Later, I was encouraged by the National award that came my way and consider it an honour to Chair the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy from 2003 to 2006 & to be entrusted with the directorship of IFFK International Film Festival of Kerala from 2003 to 2006. I could contribute to the industry as: Jury chairman for Kerala State Film Awards 2007, ,Member of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and Member General Council, Film & Television Institute, Pune (2003–2008)

I was the Founder/ Artistic Director of JTPAC, Kochi (Jose Thomas Performing Art Centre) .I currently hold the position of Artistic Director of Blue Mermaid Events, Kochi. Moreover, I have conceived & directed more than 40 International shows, 4 plays and 80 National Cultural events & State Pageantry. I look forward to share and impart to you the past experiences in the film industry and assure you that in the Dept of Direction at the RKFA, you folks will have a great learning experience! See you there! 

Harikumar N
Visiting Instructor
Hello There! Welcome to the Sound department of RKFA! I am Harikumar, your honorary faculty in the department of Sound Design and Recording. I have a diploma in Sound Engineering from M.G.R Government Film and Television Training Institute. Basically, I started my career as a sound recordist at Delhi Doordarshan Kendra. Later in 1979, I joined Chitranjali Studio as sound recordist under renowned sound engineer P. Devadas

I have had the utmost pleasure of working many films with one of the great Indian film makers, Sri. Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Some of them include Anantaram, Mathilukal, Nizhalkuthu, Naalu Penningal, Oru Pennum Randaanum, etc. I am quite happy to share that I was awarded the National Award twice for my work in the film Anantharam and Mathilukal in 1987 and 1989 respectively. With blessings from all 8 more awards from Kerala State Film Awards have come my way for audiography.

Sound design is an incredibly imaginative, resourceful, very delicate and complex art form. If not mixed in right proportion, you probably have ruined the whole movie. Most people jolt or scream at the pinnacle of a horror scene. However, have you watched a horror movie without sound? Not too scary right? So, now you know what makes you jump on your seat, and the effect it has on people. It is the least noticed while mixing it right, but a tad more, you ruin the scene, and a tad less, the emotion of the scene doesn’t come out right. So I shall share amazing tricks of the trade for the Specialization students. See you in my class then!

My book titled “Ulpathi” received Kerala State Award for Best Popular Science Book in 1992. I am very happy to share that my film on C.V. Raman received Kerala State Best TV Documentary award in 1998. I am also very fortunate to have served as a Jury in acclaimed film festivals. For a decade I was the Chief Media faculty in institutions like Mar Ivanios College, Trivandrum and DC School of Media, Trivandrum. Currently, I am having a wonderful time being a faculty at the RKFA and looking forward to having you in my class soon!

Aravind Chandrasekhar
Sound Design Instructor
Hi there! I am Aravind Chandrasekhar, your Sound Design instructor at the RKFA. Welcome to the Sound Department. If I should say a bit about myself, then I must say Music is my passion! So, right after Graduation in computer application from MG University Trivandrum, I went to Chennai to follow my passion. There, I did diploma in Sound Engineering from SAE- School of Audio Engineering in 2010. I learnt the tools and ways of the trade from music Director Mariya Manogar, when I used to assist him mixing for films, commercial films and albums after class hours, where I also got the opportunity to work with several artists.

In 2011, I started freelancing, which is when I worked with several students at the L.V Prasad Film and TV Academy for their documentaries and shorts. Later that year, I scored music for the film Yashi Faithfully Yours. Shortly after that, I did jingles for ads and music for shows on Mathrubhumi News such as Nalla Vaartha, Vaartha Keralam, Super Prime Time, and their Election theme as well. Some of my works include Kerala Consumer Federation 2012, Nassco Tiles, Medimix, Arabian Jewelry, Asianet Broadband, Saudia Group, etc.

Sound design is an amazing art! The unique process of creating sounds is something that, like all creative process, can't fully be taught in a class, but felt, explored, and discovered. Thus, as a sound designer you carry a lot of responsibility of connecting to the audience through sound whether it is merry or sad. So, if you are enrolling for Sound recording and Design, then I assure you, you will be spending more time with me at the Academy creating brilliant sound from the most ridiculous and unexpected sources you can ever imagine and learn along with me! Hoping to meet and work with you soon!
